We're open
Western Road Medical Centre offers a limited visiting service for patients who are “chronically housebound”. We would like encourage patients to attend the surgery for an appointment wherever possible so as enable us to deliver care more effectively. We do, however, appreciate this may not always be possible.
If you are requesting a home visit because of concern about the risk of spreading your illness to other staff/patients, this is usually not necessary and appropriate arrangements can be made for you to wait in a separate area when you attend the practice. Please inform the reception when booking the appointment if you have any concerns.
All options to enable patients to to attend (e.g. Taxis, Dial a Ride, Relatives, Friends, Neighbours etc.) should be considered before requesting a home visit. The NHS has stated specifically that transport problems are not an acceptable reason for requesting a visit.
Please telephone the surgery on 01708 775300. A Receptionist will request some details of your medical problem and ask you to confirm your telephone number so that a clinician can assess your need for a visit. The GP may phone you back to discuss your problem in more detail. The decision to visit will remain at the discretion of the GP, and will be based upon medical necessity. We have a different doctor doing home visits everyday and therefore cannot guarantee that you will be seen by a specific member of the team.
Requests for same-day home visits should be made as early as possible after 8am, and preferably by 10am at the latest. If you feel you need urgent attention, a doctor will call to discuss your concerns and arrange a visit if required.
