Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

Prescriptions are sent via EPS. This is an instant emailing service which is secure and is particularly useful for remote consultations and for repeat/repeat dispensing prescriptions. For an EPS prescription to be done, you will be asked to nominate a pharmacy of your choice – this can be to any pharmacy in England who have subscribed to the EPS service. Once allocated, this pharmacy will remain your default pharmacy for future prescriptions, but can easily be changed upon request.

Methods to request prescriptions

  • Written request – either emailing nelondonicb.westernroad@nhs.net, contact us via this link or delivering request in person to reception or by posting a request to the practice.
  • Electronically – to register for requesting your repeat medication electronically using either NHS app or Patient Access, if you do not have access to online services, please bring in photo ID to Reception and your access will be activated.
  • Nominated Pharmacy – Order repeat prescriptions via your nominated Pharmacy.
  • Medication not on repeat prescription – to request medication that are not on your repeat prescription, please submit electronic consultation using this link.

If you are unable to request your prescriptions yourself, you can nominate someone else to do it on your behalf with your consent. To nominate a person please complete the this Proxy Access Form.

Please allow up to two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

* Please note we are unable to take prescription requests verbally over the telephone or at reception as this can lead to errors. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Repeat Dispensing

We are currently trying to switch medications being given on a long term basis to “repeat dispensing” which means that it will be dispensed automatically by the pharmacy without the need for a request to be received by the practice. This is suitable for medications that patients take regularly (i.e. daily/weekly etc) and do not require monitoring. A review will still be needed when the authorised number of medication issues has expired. This option is not suitable for controlled drugs, drugs requiring regular blood tests or clinical review, or patients whose condition is not considered stable. We hope this will improve patient experience in terms of accessing repeat medication supplies and also to free-up clinician time for other commitments.

Medication Reviews

Medication Reviews are carried out by the doctors or clinical pharmacist for all patients who receive medication on repeat or repeat dispensing. Depending on individual cases, this will usually be 6-12 monthly and may be carried out without the need to attend. If you prefer or if the clinician thinks it necessary, a face-to-face consultation may be arranged to complete this.

Delivery serviceMany pharmacies offer this service for patients unable to leave their residence. Please speak to your pharmacist for more information.
